TBP's Family Backpack Adventures All ages welcome, recommended ages 7-17
Families Building Memories that Matter TBP's Family Backpack Adventures is a family-based volunteer program that allows you and your children to discover and practice philanthropy together. Designed to maximize your child's exposure to charity through fun and engaging activities and lessons tailored to how kids want to experience philanthropy, TBP’s Family Backpack Adventures offers your family the opportunity to spend quality time together while directly helping those experiencing homelessness in our communities.
Your children will pack backpacks, learn about homelessness on an age-appropriate level, and hand-deliver backpacks to clients at one of our reputable service partners' facilities. At its core, TBP's Family Backpack Adventures will provide your crew with a space to collaborate on meaningful work and share your values.
The Details There are two primary components to TBP’s Family Backpack Adventures: fundraising and hands-on packing/distribution. Fundraising: Each TBP homeless care backpack costs $20 to assemble and includes 40+ essential items of food, clothing and toiletry. You decide how many backpacks your family is interested in sponsoring. You decide if you want to ask friends/neighbors/coworkers to sponsor your efforts. There is no set minimum or maximum number of backpacks; however, we recommend at least one per participant. Packing/distribution: TBP will provide the backpacks and supplies, secure a place to pack them, and make the arrangements with one of our service partners to distribute them. You and your family will pack the backpacks that you sponsored and then hand-deliver them to clients at one of our service partners’ facilities. It has been our experience that the personal interactions have a lasting impact on all involved.
To participate, simply decide how many backpacks your family is interested in sponsoring and then fill out the registration form below. In the weeks leading up to the event, we'll provide you with more specific details, including exactly where the packing will take place and confirm which homeless service provider we'll be working with to distribute backpacks.
Please keep in mind that to ensure the safety of your children, we ask that you remain with them at all times. Please remember that this event is meant for parents and children together! We need parents to participate fully with their children throughout our time together. Our team is there to lead the activities and create a safe environment for each of our participants, so we must ask you to be present with your young ones at all times.
We hope your family joins forces with The Backpack Project to fulfill its mission of easing the burden of homelessness, one backpack at a time.
Warm Regards, The Backpack Project Team
